Vicinanza Studios & Gallery Presents an Artist Reception Featuring David J. Walsh, Kathleen Rudoff, and Terry Hunt

Southbury, CT – Join us for an exciting evening at Vicinanza Studios & Gallery on March 7th, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM for an exclusive Artist Reception featuring three talented Southbury-based artists: David J. Walsh, Kathleen Rudoff, and Terry Hunt.

David J. Walsh brings a remarkable five-decade journey of artistic exploration to the gallery. With a diverse portfolio that spans acrylics, oils, watercolors, and gouache, David's true passion lies in scratchboard and pastel art. These techniques allow him to create vibrant, textured pieces that deeply resonate with viewers.

Since retiring from the U.S. Army, David has devoted himself to his art, embracing each brushstroke and scratch as an opportunity for growth. He views art as more than a skill – it is a lifelong journey of creativity, experimentation, and personal expression. His work showcases not only his technical proficiency but also an emotional depth that invites the viewer to engage with his pieces on multiple levels.

Kathleen Rudoff is an emerging artist who picked up her first paintbrush and canvas at age 60 to engage in a unique process for creating mixed media paintings. Through a spiritual practice of mantra meditation, and her love of color, her paintings are infused with affirmations of resilience, messages of meaning, and joie de vivre. Kathleen’s artwork connects painter and collector through the energy of intention as a mantra is written on the canvas before the first brushstroke. Whatever the medium, size, or subject, it all comes down to what Kathleen calls a fusion of abstract and folk art that comes from a mindful heart.

Terry Hunt has been drawn to creative pursuits since bamboozling her way into a high-school summer class in sculpture at the age of 11. A meandering path led from college studio art to performing arts administration; from commercial writing to childrens’ book publishing and editing; from poetry to pottery and back, finally, to the paint, paper and canvas. Her current work is exploratory. Utilizing a variety of mixed media and collage, she strives to create intuitive expressive abstract pieces that are at once spontaneous and deliberate. The practice is meditative. The results, surprising. At times, the work reflects an affinity toward wabi-sabi, the Japanese aesthetic that values impermanence and finds beauty in imperfection. At other times, what emerges is a reaction to the ugliness from which we cannot turn away.

This reception will be a wonderful opportunity to meet David Walsh, Kathleen Rudoff and Terry Hunt, and learn more about their artistic processes. Guests will have the chance to explore their stunning artworks, ask questions, and celebrate the artists' shared commitment to their craft.

Come and enjoy an evening of art, conversation, and community. Light refreshments will be served.
