  • Vicinanza Studios & Gallery - Suite 4C 493 Heritage Road Southbury, CT, 06488 United States (map)

Featured Poet … Elizabeth Thomas and Dimitri Rimsky (host - Kate Randall)

Elizabeth Thomas is a published writer and educator who believes poetry is meant to be heard out loud and in person. Her presentation style evolved through the poetry slam, both as performer and youth coach. Now, she can be found hosting workshops for writers of all ages.

Dimitri Rimsky grew up in Washington, CT, where he continues to reside. He has been a talent agent creating the Savoy Agency responsible for the entertainment calendars of over a dozen venues in the 1980’s. He also created the Petaluers mime troupe that sold flowers in many New Haven restaurants and night clubs during the 80’s and 90’s. During the 90’s, he became a graphic designer and later evolved into a web designer. He currently is a house painter, civic activist in his community, and resident poet. Dimitri has been performing his poetry at various coffee houses and other venues since he was 18 years old starting in New Haven’s famous Exit coffeehouse and venues in Key West, Woodstock and few places he’s forgotten. Most recently he has read at the Washington Art Association, the Gunn Memorial Library, the Sherman Playhouse, and Gateway City Arts in Holyoke. Selected poems have been published in Confluencia and the No Name Writers Anthology.

VSG’s Poetry/Acoustic Open Mic night in Southbury takes place every first Thursday. Reknowned poets and local talents alike will find a platform for their poetry, prose, spoken word, and acoustic performances creating a vibrant atmosphere of creativity and expression. By hosting these events, VSG aims to foster a sense of community and promote the art of poetry in Southbury and beyond. Whether you’re a seasoned poet, an aspiring writer, a storyteller, or simply a lover of the spoken word, mark your calendar for our open mic nights.
