Join us for an intimate journey into the mind of acclaimed abstract artist Charles Gulbrandsen during the opening reception of his exhibition, Where Are We Now, held at Vicinanza Studios & Gallery in Southbury, Connecticut, on May 16, 2025.
In this 15-minute video, Gulbrandsen offers a soft-spoken and insightful commentary on his artistic process, inspirations, and the evolution of his work, followed by a Q&A session with attendees.
About Charles Gulbrandsen:
A third-generation artist, Charles Gulbrandsen's lineage traces back to his grandfather, Charles C. Gulbrandsen, renowned for painting the iconic celestial ceiling of Grand Central Terminal. Continuing this legacy, Charles graduated with distinction from The Cooper Union in 1985 and contributed to the restoration of the Grand Central mural in 1996.
Gulbrandsen's paintings are characterized by layers of opacity and translucency, creating luminous forms that evoke distant nebulae or firing neurons. His work challenges perceptions of scale and dimensionality, inviting viewers into a space where light and form intertwine.
About the Exhibition:
Where Are We Now showcases Gulbrandsen's latest abstract works, prompting viewers to reflect on their place within the cosmos and the interplay between the seen and unseen. The exhibition encourages a sensory dialogue, blurring the lines between light, space, and perception.
